• Gold abroad. The world price is in US dollars, so when it climbs, the rupee price follows.
• The rupee. If it slips against the dollar, imported gold costs more.
• Import duty. India brings in most of its gold, and the duty rose from 6% to 15% on 13 May 2026.
• Buying demand. Festival months and weddings lift demand and prices.
• GST. It is 3%, the same in every city, and it is added at billing, not in the daily rate.
Carat | Gold content | Where it is used |
24K | 99.9% | Coins and bars. Too soft for most jewellery. |
22K | 91.6% | Most gold jewellery, including wedding sets. |
18K | 75% | Diamond-studded and light everyday jewellery. |
• The BIS hallmark should be stamped on the piece, with the purity marked, for example 22K916.
• A 6-character HUID code should sit beside it. It has been required on hallmarked jewellery since 1 April 2023.
• Enter that code in the BIS Care app and compare the details.
• Leave out unmarked pieces. The bill must show purity and weight.
Gold rates in Vijayawada change every day, so read the 22K, 24K and 18K tables on this page on the day you plan to buy. GST and making charges are extra, so ask for the full breakup before you pay. Pick hallmarked pieces with a HUID and keep the bill. If the purchase is large, compare with Guntur, Visakhapatnam and Amaravati first.
Today's 22K, 24K and 18K gold rates for Vijayawada are in the tables at the top of this page, in per-gram, 8 gram and 10 gram units, with yesterday's rate beside each. The rate resets every day, so confirm the date shown on the page before you use a figure.
Find the per-gram rate for each carat in the table near the top. Multiply it by the weight of the piece to get the gold value. The jeweller's final bill will also include GST and a making charge, so ask to see each line separately.
GST and import duty do not change from city to city. The small gaps come from local jeweller association quotes, transport costs and demand on that day. Open the Guntur and Visakhapatnam pages on this site and compare them on the day you plan to buy.
The number tells you purity. 24K is 99.9% gold, used for coins and bars. 22K is 91.6% gold and the common choice for Vijayawada jewellery, since added metal makes it stronger. 18K is 75% gold, often used for diamond pieces. Less gold per carat means a lower per-gram price.
No, it covers only the gold. Your bill adds 3% GST and the jeweller's making charge, which is a percentage or a per-gram fee set by each shop and design. Ask for a written breakup and compare it across jewellers before paying.
Work out weight times the carat's rate, add the making charge, then add 3% GST. Taking a gold value of ₹100 and a 10% making charge as an example, the pre-tax total is ₹110 and GST is ₹3.30. These are round numbers, not a rate. Check the invoice for how making charges are taxed.
Most of India's gold is imported, so the duty is built into rates everywhere, Vijayawada included. It went from 6% to 15% on 13 May 2026, which pushes up the cost of imported gold before it gets to a jeweller. You will not see it as a separate line on your bill.
Check the BIS hallmark for the carat mark, such as 22K916, and the 6-character HUID. Put the HUID into the BIS Care app and match what it shows. Do not accept a piece with no hallmark, and ask for a bill that states purity and weight.
No one can say in advance when the rate will drop. Demand often builds near Dhanteras, Diwali, Akshaya Tritiya and the wedding season. For a wedding, book jewellery early and compare quotes. Watch the 10-day table, and think about buying in two or three parts instead of one.
SEBI said in November 2025 that digital gold sold on apps is outside its regulation and carries no investor protection. SEBI-regulated ways to own gold without jewellery are gold ETFs and Electronic Gold Receipts. Before buying, find out who holds the gold and how you can redeem it.
