• Global gold price. It is quoted in dollars, so a jump overseas lifts the price in rupees.
• Rupee value. A weaker rupee makes each imported gram dearer.
• Import duty. It was raised from 6% to 15% on 13 May 2026. India imports most of its gold, so the duty feeds into every city's rate.
• Demand. Weddings and festival months bring more buyers and firmer prices.
• GST. It is 3% on the bill, is the same in every city and is not part of the daily rate.
Carat | Gold content | Where it is used |
24K | 99.9% | Coins and bars. Too soft for most jewellery. |
22K | 91.6% | Most gold jewellery, including wedding sets. |
18K | 75% | Diamond-studded and light everyday jewellery. |
• Find the BIS hallmark stamp. It gives the purity, such as 22K916.
• Find the 6-character HUID next to it. It has been required on hallmarked jewellery since 1 April 2023.
• Type the HUID into the BIS Care app to see the matching details.
• Walk away from unmarked pieces, and make sure the bill states purity and weight.
• Jewellery. You pay making charges and GST on top of the gold value, and the making charges are lost on resale.
• Coins and bars. Pick hallmarked pieces from a seller you trust, and keep the bill.
• Gold ETFs. They follow the gold price, trade on the stock exchange and need a demat account.
• Electronic Gold Receipts. This is a SEBI-regulated way to hold gold in electronic form.
• Digital gold. In November 2025 SEBI said it does not regulate digital gold sold on apps, so buyers have no investor protection.
Rates in Guntur move every day, so read the 22K, 24K and 18K tables here on the day you buy. GST and the making charge are extra, so ask your jeweller for a written breakup. Choose hallmarked jewellery with a HUID and keep the bill. For a big purchase, compare with Vijayawada and Amaravati first.
Today's 22K, 24K and 18K gold rates for Guntur sit in the tables at the top of this page, shown per gram, for 8 grams and for 10 grams, with yesterday's rate next to each. Rates reset daily, so confirm the date on the page before you rely on a figure.
The per-gram rate for every carat is in the table near the top. Multiply it by your piece's weight in grams to get the gold value. A jeweller's final bill adds GST and a making charge, so ask for each line to be shown separately.
Duty and GST are identical across the country, so differences between nearby cities stay small. They come from each market's jeweller association quote, transport cost and demand on the day. Open the Vijayawada and Amaravati pages on this site and compare them on the day you buy.
Carat tells you purity. 24K is 99.9% gold and is made into coins and bars. 22K is 91.6% gold and is the usual pick for jewellery in Guntur because the added metal keeps it firm. 18K is 75% gold and is used in diamond sets. Lower carat, lower per-gram price.
No. It is the price of the gold alone. Your bill then adds 3% GST and the making charge, which each jeweller fixes as a percentage or a per-gram fee. Get a written breakup from two or three shops and compare before you pay.
Multiply weight by the carat's rate, add the making charge, and then add 3% GST. As a round-number example, a gold value of ₹100 with a 10% making charge totals ₹110 before tax, and GST adds ₹3.30. This is not a rate. Read the invoice for how making charges are taxed.
India imports most of its gold, so duty is part of the rate in every city, Guntur included. It rose from 6% to 15% on 13 May 2026, which makes imported gold costlier before it reaches a jeweller. It is already in the rate, not a separate line on the bill.
Look for the BIS hallmark with the carat mark, for example 22K916, and the 6-character HUID. Enter the HUID in the BIS Care app and match the details. Refuse pieces with no hallmark, and make sure the bill states the purity and the weight.
No one can name the low point in advance. Demand tends to rise near Dhanteras, Diwali, Akshaya Tritiya and the wedding season, which can move rates and offers. If you are buying for a set date, follow the 10-day table and think about buying in two or three parts.
RBI's rules from 1 April 2026 allow up to 85% of the gold's value for loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% for ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh, and 75% above ₹5 lakh. The lender works out the value from purity, weight and the rate on that day.
