• Global gold price. It is quoted in dollars, so a move abroad shows up in rupees.
• Rupee value. The weaker it gets, the more imported gold costs.
• Import duty. It was lifted from 6% to 15% on 13 May 2026. Because India imports most of its gold, the duty is part of the rate in every city.
• Local demand. Wedding months and festivals bring more buyers and firmer prices.
• GST. It is a flat 3% on the final bill, the same in every city, and is kept out of the daily rate.
Carat | Gold content | Where it is used |
24K | 99.9% | Coins and bars. Too soft for most jewellery. |
22K | 91.6% | Most gold jewellery, including wedding sets. |
18K | 75% | Diamond-studded and light everyday jewellery. |
• Look for the BIS hallmark with the purity mark, such as 22K916.
• Look for the 6-character HUID next to it. It has been required on hallmarked jewellery since 1 April 2023.
• Put the HUID into the BIS Care app and see that the details match.
• Say no to unmarked jewellery, and see that the bill lists purity and weight.
• Jewellery. GST and making charges come on top of the gold value, and the making charges are lost when you resell.
• Coins and bars. Pick hallmarked ones from a seller you trust, and keep the bill.
• Gold ETFs. They follow the gold price, trade on the stock exchange and need a demat account.
• Electronic Gold Receipts. This is the SEBI-regulated way to hold gold in electronic form.
• Digital gold. SEBI said in November 2025 that apps selling it are not regulated by SEBI and give buyers no investor protection.
The gold rate in Kurnool moves daily, so read the 22K, 24K and 18K tables at the top of this page on the day you buy. GST and the making charge come on top, so get the breakup in writing. Choose hallmarked jewellery with a HUID and hold on to the bill. For a bigger purchase, compare with Hyderabad and Nellore first.
The tables at the top of this page show today's 22K, 24K and 18K gold rates for Kurnool, per gram, for 8 grams and for 10 grams, with yesterday's rate next to each. Rates are reset every day, so confirm the date shown on the page before you use a figure.
The per-gram rate for each carat is in the table near the top of the page. Multiply it by the weight of your piece to get its gold value. The jeweller's bill then adds GST and a making charge, so ask for each of them to be listed separately.
GST and import duty are the same in every state, so gaps between cities stay small. They come from each market's jewellers' association quote, freight cost and demand on the day. Open the Hyderabad and Nellore pages on this site and compare them on the day you buy.
Carat measures purity. 24K is 99.9% gold and is used for coins and bars. 22K is 91.6% gold and is the usual grade for jewellery in Kurnool, as the added metal stops it bending out of shape. 18K is 75% gold and is used for diamond sets. Fewer carats mean a lower per-gram price.
No, it covers only the gold. GST at 3% and the jeweller's making charge are added on the bill. The making charge is a percentage or a per-gram fee that each shop sets, so collect a written breakup from two or three jewellers and compare them before you pay.
Multiply the weight by the carat's rate, add the making charge, then add 3% GST. As a round-number example, a gold value of ₹100 with a 10% making charge comes to ₹110 before tax, and GST adds ₹3.30. This is not a rate. Read the invoice to see how making charges are taxed.
India imports most of its gold, so duty sits inside the rate in every city, including Kurnool. It went up from 6% to 15% on 13 May 2026, which makes imported gold costlier before it reaches a jeweller. It is not a separate line on your bill.
Look for the BIS hallmark with the carat mark, such as 22K916, and the 6-character HUID. Enter the HUID in the BIS Care app and check that the details match your piece. Do not accept jewellery with no hallmark, and make sure the bill lists purity and weight.
No one can tell you when the rate will dip. Demand usually builds around Dhanteras, Diwali, Akshaya Tritiya and the wedding season, which can move rates and offers. If you have a date to meet, follow the 10-day table and consider buying in two or three parts.
Under RBI's rules from 1 April 2026, a lender can advance up to 85% of the gold's value on loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% on loans from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh, and 75% above ₹5 lakh. The value depends on purity, weight and that day's rate.
