How to Apply for a Passport Online in Kolkata

Passport applicants in Kolkata can follow the steps outlined below to apply online for a passport:

Step 1: Visit the Passport Seva Online portal and click on the 'Register' button on the homepage.

Step 2: Sign up and log in to the Passport Seva Online portal using the login credentials.

Step 3: Click on the 'Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport' card on the 'Services' page

Before filling in the form, select the Regional Passport Office (RPO) as Kolkata based on your current residing location; the portal then shows the nearest Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) when you schedule your appointment.

Step 4: Enter the details requested in the online form and submit it.

The online application has nine sections, from passport type to details verification, and a unique Application Reference Number (ARN) is generated when you submit it. You can save your application and resume later, but you cannot change the details once the application is submitted.

Step 5: Go to the 'My Applications' section, open the submitted application, click 'View' and then select 'Pay and Schedule Appointment' and book an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra.

Step 6: Make the online payment to complete the appointment booking (through either debit/credit card, internet banking, UPI or SBI wallet).

Select the 'Online Payment' option, choose the appointment quota (Normal or Tatkaal) and your preferred PSK or POPSK, and the portal shows the next available appointment date before you pay. Online payment is mandatory before an appointment can be booked, and Tatkaal applicants pay the entire Tatkaal fee online.

Step 7: Print the application receipt that mentions the application reference number or appointment number. You will also receive an SMS with your appointment details on your registered mobile number.

Step 8: Visit the Passport Seva Kendra/Post Office Passport Seva Kendra with the application receipt and all documents.

Carry your original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies to the PSK on the day of your appointment. You can reschedule your appointment using the 'Schedule/Reschedule Appointment' link, three times in the case of a Normal appointment and once in the case of a Tatkaal appointment, and if you do not visit the PSK within 90 days of submitting the online form, you must resubmit the application.

You can apply at any PSK or RPO across India, so you can choose a Passport Seva Kendra in Kolkata even if your present passport was issued by another Regional Passport Office. In that case, create a new login ID on the Passport Seva portal using the same email ID.
