Aadhar Card Update and Correction Online & Offline 2026

From 1 November 2025, users can update Aadhaar information such as name, address, and mobile number online through the myAadhaar portal. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) makes it easier for citizens as they do not need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for these demographic updates. Users can also upload documents and complete automated verification through the website. However, biometric updates like fingerprints, iris, or photographs will still require an in-person visit. All Aadhaar holders need to keep their details updated to avoid service restrictions and potential financial issues.  

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will launch the e-Aadhaar mobile app this month. This new app will help users in updating their address, Date of Birth, and mobile number directly from their smartphones. Users can also upload documents such as a PAN, passport, or driving licence for proof. However, biometric updates like fingerprints or iris scans will still need to be done at Aadhaar centres. The e-Aadhaar app will help in saving time as people do not need to visit the Aadhaar centre for any updates or changes. Moreover, UIDAI has asked users to check that their Aadhaar is linked to their phone number, keep valid ID documents ready, and update their smartphone before using the app. 

Aadhaar biometrics can now be updated for free for a year for children aged 5 to 17, according to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Beginning on 1st October and continuing until 30th September 2026, the new Aadhaar upgrade will benefit around 6 crore children globally. It used to cost parents Rs. 125 for each biometric update if the change was made outside of the specified age range. For children in this age group, all Aadhaar biometric updates will now be free for a year, regardless of when they are released. Aadhaar numbers may be temporarily blocked if biometrics are not updated on time. This could affect Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programs, entrance exams, scholarships, and school admissions. You can finish the biometric update procedure at any approved enrollment facility or Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) by making an online appointment via the UIDAI website or mAadhaar app.

The new fee structure announced by the UIDAI for Aadhaar services will take effect from 1 October 2025. According to the new fee structure, the charges for major Aadhaar-related services have increased. Aadhaar services previously costing Rs.50 and Rs.75 will now cost Rs.75 and Rs.100. Starting from 2028, the Rs.75 and Rs.125 services will be increased to Rs.90 and Rs.150, respectively.

However, biometric updates for children aged 5 to 7 and teenagers aged 15 to 17 years are still free. For children aged 7 to 15, biometric updates are free until 30 September 2026. The charge for other biometric updates will be Rs.125. Demographic updates, such as name, address, gender, and DOB, are also free when done along with biometric updates. Standalone demographic updates cost between Rs.50 and Rs.70. Updating identity and address documents using the myAadhaar portal is free until 14 June 2026, and updating through Aadhaar centres costs Rs.50 to Rs.70. The charge for home enrolment services is Rs.700, plus the standard update fees.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) states that biometric updates are required once a child turns five. Since fingerprints and iris scans are not developed at that age, the card depends only on a photo, name, and address. The Aadhaar card is called Baal Aadhaar, printed in blue, and is issued for children under the age of five. According to reports, approximately 17 crore Aadhaar updates for children are still pending in India. If a biometric update is missing, parents must pay a fee (currently Rs.100).

Instead of providing photocopies, Aadhaar holders will be able to electronically disclose their identities in the upcoming weeks. According to a TOI article, users would be able to share a full version of the document through QR code using a new mobile app from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). A system that allows users to alter their name, date of birth, address, and phone number from the comfort of their own homes will be introduced by UIDAI. By November, providing fingerprints and iris scans at an enrollment center will be the only in-person step. The goal of the action is to reduce paperwork, reduce the possibility of fake documents, and speed up the procedure for citizens. Birth certificates, driver's licenses, passports, PANs, PDSs, and MNREGA are among the documents from which UIDAI obtains its data directly. The QR-code approach is ready to be used for identity verification on trains, hotel check-ins, and property deals.

The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has announced an Aadhaar revamp to introduce major changes. The changes include launching a QR code-based application that eliminates the need to submit physical photocopies of Aadhaar cards. It enables cardholders to share digital copies of Aadhaar in complete or masked formats. By November 2025, UIDAI is prepared to automate Aadhaar updates except for biometric details, through integrating official databases. This aims to make Aadhaar updating easier and more convenient for users by removing the need to visit Aadhaar centres.

The announcement by UIDAI indicates that Aadhaar holders can upload their documents for verification free of cost on the myAadhaar portal until 14 June 2026. The aim is to correct any Aadhaar record inaccuracies, especially for those whose Aadhaar is more than 10 years old or who have recently changed information. It is important to understand that biometric, email, and telephone number changes must be made at an Aadhaar center and are subject to regular fees.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced that the biometric attendance system will be discontinued and fully replaced by an Aadhaar-based facial recognition method from 1 May 2025. The rule will apply to all medical college faculty members across India in which teachers give their attendance by using a special face scan app that is linked to their Aadhaar number. The app can be downloaded from both Play Store and App Store. This change has been made to stop the issue of "ghost faculty", i.e., teachers who are listed on college records but do not actually work there. All the medical colleges have been asked to make sure every teacher is ready to use the new system before the deadline.

As per a recent circular from the Election Commission of India (ECI), officials have been instructed to link Aadhaar numbers with electoral roll data. This directive, sent to all Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) in states and Union Territories, mandates the integration of voter roll data with Aadhaar and mobile numbers to enhance the accuracy of voter identification. This initiative is expected to prevent cases of a single voter possessing multiple Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers.

India has revamped its Aadhaar Good Governance Portal by adding a new feature that allows citizens to directly report on the performance of public services using their Aadhaar credentials. With this improvement, users can register grievances, track resolution status, and review government efficiency via an enhanced, user-friendly interface. This initiative is intended to boost the transparency, accountability, and overall responsiveness of public services.

The EPFO has urged employees to activate their UAN and link it with Aadhaar and their bank account by January 15 to remain eligible for the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme. Aadhaar should also be connected to a mobile number to enable EPF fund transfers directly to the bank account. UAN activation ensures access to EPFO services like online EPF withdrawals and balance checks. Missing the deadline may lead to ineligibility for ELI scheme benefits.
